At Synthera, our collaborative approach involves interdisciplinary teams striving to develop a holistic design capable of regenerating both the local ecology and social systems, ultimately fostering positive economic contributions.

Our partners

We have partnerships with manufacturers of timber and earth building systems, as well as construction companies with extensive experience in sustainable and circular construction. We integrate them early in the design phase to ensure that the project’s sustainability targets are achieved within the given budget and the timeline.

Every design starts with careful consideration of the client’s needs, the local ecological and urban environment, as well as available materials.

Our Philosophy

Synthera is a combination of the word "synthesis" and the root word "thera." Synthesis refers to the process of integrating various elements, principles, and considerations to create a unified and holistic design. The root word "thera" comes from the Greek word "therapeia," which means "healing" or "curing." At Synthera, our collaborative approach involves interdisciplinary teams striving to develop a holistic design capable of regenerating both the local ecology and social systems, ultimately fostering positive economic contributions.

Our design framework is built on 5 areas of action that we consider with each project; climate, resources, nature, individual well-being and community.

Our Fields of Action

We are committed to achieving Europe's climate-neutral targets by designing energy-efficient buildings powered by renewable energy sources. Our designs prioritise resource efficiency to minimise the need for heating, cooling, and ventilation, while ensuring a high-quality indoor climate. We integrate smart water management systems to optimise water use.

Recognizing the limitations of our finite world, circular construction is central to our approach. Our designs maximise the use of secondary materials and prepare buildings for future disassembly, reducing waste and carbon emissions throughout their entire lifecycle. The use of regenerative and biobased materials further supports this goal.

Understanding that people spend most of their time indoors, we prioritise creating healthy and positive indoor environments that foster creativity and individual well-being. Additionally, we design spaces that promote social interaction and communal life, strengthening the sense of belonging and care within communities.

Our Studio

Synthera is not just another architecture studio. It is also a think tank, where new ideas constantly emerge and get tested. We encourage innovation and see every challenge as an opportunity for an exciting project. Synthera comprises four building blocks; design & planning, research & prototyping, education and networking.

We conduct research & prototyping on topics such as circular construction, regenerative design, and building with ecological materials. This, in turn, forms the foundation for our design and planning decisions. We offer workshops and webinars to share our experience with various stakeholders in the building industry and organise events to connect and build networks to encourage transition in the building sector towards sustainable practices.

Our Work Culture

Synthera places a strong emphasis on human capital. As an organisation conforming to ESG standards, we are dedicated to ethical business practices. Our priorities include upholding integrity and transparency, fostering self-organisation, promoting professional and personal growth, and engaging in co-creative decision-making. Through these efforts, we ensure the resilience of our organisation and strive to maximise its full potential.
